Dr. Tom’s Historic Drive – Wow! Professor HortonReport: We had 18 cars meet at the Coleman Garage last Saturday to motor up to Quinby Plantation and St. Thomas and St. Denis Church in Cainhoy. We even had a drop-in guest join us, Bill Ahern, with his ’65 VW as well as Lane Anderson from the Cars and Coffee group.
Tom gave two wonderful, enthralling talks at each location. His familiarity with the history made it easy to visualize what happened on those important dates in history as he described the players and their backgrounds, their actions, their thoughts, and how things moved and played out at those locations. You could feel the heat, the desperate actions, the determination of the parties involved.
It was a beautiful day, a wonderful drive up through the backcountry north of Mt. Pleasant, ending in a great lunch at the Cainhoy Cooking Depot. If you weren’t there you missed a special morning. But, don’t fret, we’ll do another one soon.
Our thanks to Tom and Millie Horton for an absolutely splendid Saturday morning, well spent driving British cars to interesting places to learn fascinating history, finishing off with a great lunch!
